Q: Will the system work in heavily wooded areas and inside buildings?
A: Yes, the system uses an advanced technology that employs both GPS and cellular tower signals to determine location. When the system cannot access GPS signals, it switches to cellular signals and triangulates from cellular towers to determine the location of your pet. Indoor tracking information may be less specific and the address information broader than that received when tracking via GPS signals. The system does not require a line of sight to the sky—your pet will be located inside most areas with adequate cellular coverage.
Q: How do I know if the LovemypetsGPS Pet Safety Collar will work where I live?
A: The system runs on the most complete, all-digital network in the U.S. to transmit its location information so your pet can be tracked outdoors as well as inside buildings. However, there are still some areas where coverage is not available. A: No. Sprint PCS is simply the cellular network our system uses to assist in locating your pet and communicating your pet’s location. Your personal cellular service provider does not influence the GPS unit’s tracking ability.
Q: Does the system work outside the U.S.?
A: No, the system can locate and track only within the U.S. at this time.
Q: What if I’m traveling—will I still be able to use the system?
A: Yes, the system will track your pet wherever Sprint PCS cellular phone service is available. As long as you have Internet or phone access, you will be able to locate and track your pet via www.lovemypetsgps.com or by calling 1-888-LUV-R-PET.
Q: If my pet becomes lost, how often will I receive updates of my pet’s location?
A: Once you have initially located your pet by logging into your account—via www.lovemypetsgps.com or by calling 1-888-LUV-R-PET—you can determine how often you want to receive tracking updates. You can set your tracking frequency anywhere from every 60 seconds to once a day, depending on your needs. It is important to keep a sufficient number of locates available so you have enough locates to continue tracking until reunited with your pet.
Q: What are locates?
A: Locates are the number of times you can retrieve the GPS unit’s current location. Each time you receive the location of your pet, one locate is used. You receive 100 locates for the year when you sign up for an account, and additional locates can be purchased in quantities of 50 or 100 at www.lovemypetsgps.com. Any unused locates will roll over to the next year.
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: The rechargeable battery will last about two weeks in the standby mode. However, with increased usage you will need to recharge the battery more frequently. A battery charger is included with your system, and we recommend scheduling a certain time each week to recharge the battery.
Q: Is the system water-resistant?
A: Yes, the GPS unit and collar envelope are both water resistant. Limited exposure to water and the elements will not harm the system. But complete water submersion, such as in a swimming pool or the ocean, could destroy the unit. Simply remove the GPS unit from the collar envelope if your pet is going for a swim.
Q: Why doesn’t my glow-in-the-dark banding work?
A: When you first receive your collar, harness or leash, the glow-in-the-dark pigments will need to be charged, since it was shipped in a container without daylight. Place the items under a bright light for several hours to re-energize the pigments. Once the item has been charged, normal daylight will automatically re-energize the pigments for glow at night. So as long as you don’t coil your collar, harness or leash or store it away in a drawer, the glow-in-the-dark pigments will automatically activate in normal light.
Q: Can I have more than one pet on the system?
A: Yes! You can locate and track multiple pets on your account, as long as each pet has its own LovemypetsGPS Pet Safety Collar. When you login to www.lovemypetsgps.com you can assign different names and icons to each individual pet’s unit.
Q: Will I have to install any software before I can start using the system?
